Perfect, only two little chips on the mouth and on the edge of the base, see well the photos. Beautiful blown glass sculpture depicting a duck, made by the famous glass artist and sculptor Oiva Toikka. Born in Finland in 1919 in Viipurin Maalaiskunta, a rural municipality that is now part of Russia. Perhaps because of his rural origins he loved birds so much, so as to remain famous, as well as for the designs of glass glasses, especially for his series of drawings of birds, precisely called “Birds by Toikka” which he created for the very important Finnish design factory, iittala. From 1972 to his death just last year, in 2019, he produced about 400 mouth blown glass bird models. Then it must be said that one thing is the works directly created by the artist, such as this duck, and another those made in series by iittala on his model, which still have a great value, but cannot compete with the first ones that are to be considered real works of art. Even the signature is different, the ones in the series have the iittala sticker and the Toikka signature made with the acid stencil on the piece, some do not even have the stencil signature. Ours is signed in full Oiva Toikka, and then there are other words in Finnish, i think they refer to the title of the work and / or the technique used to make it. They are beautiful objects but they are in series, smooth glass of various colors fused together to form the shades or the spiral line that covers the whole sculpture. Ours is another matter entirely. The others, not all of them (many are even simpler), have the cord that is inside the sculpture like a different colored glass filament melted inside the main body and also the shades are always internal to the main glass, therefore made by melting in the furnace parts of colored glass together with the main transparent one. Ours, on the other hand, has a main body in dark amber blown glass, which can be seen above all on the neck (and this is already worth much more than simple glass, amber glass and among those of greater value) and above this main body was made a particular enamelling, I always believe with glass, or perhaps with the use of some metal, melted in the furnace on the main body of the sculpture and then treated with some acid, to give it all those lighter or darker green shades and where the material used to cover the missing surface, you can see the amber color of the main body that resurfaces under all these numerous small irregularly shaped holes or larger parts where the enamelling is missing. The surface is therefore not smooth and simple, but completely irregular, with a creamy, pasty, albeit very hard and very compact consistency, to the touch it is, as I might say, “slightly more elastic” than normal glass. Later, a glass cord was then applied by hand, which remains strongly in relief with respect to the surface of the sculpture. Can you imagine the difficulty of applying this cord by hand, centimeter by centimeter? Applied to form concentric lines all at the same distance from each other, without burrs or irregularities or points where they get too close or too far away from each other. What I have to tell you, I hope that the photos can reveal the total difference between this sculpture, a unique piece, a work of art, created by the artist himself and those made in series on his model. I assure you that having it in your hands you immediately perceive that it is a thing of great value and that to obtain such an effect you need an uncommon technique and expertise. ABSOLUTELY NOT TO BE MISSED! PORCELAINS, CERAMICS, TERRACOTTE, BRONZE, PAINTINGS, FURNITURE, GLASS AND MUCH MORE AS, FOR EXAMPLE. My name is Gabriele, an art lover, since I was very young I started collecting paintings, porcelain, bronzes, glass, ceramics, etc. And I have gained over time a vast experience and a very refined taste in recognizing beauty and then, little by little, I also transferred it to my son Nicolò. Now I have decided, with the help of my son, to sell my entire collection, created in over 35 years of research and selection of beauty, art and objects with a very old flavor, made with top quality materials and with love and dedication of other times. Then I would have to carry the objects left and right, even abroad, and then go back to take the unsold items, too many problems, too much time, too many expenses!! REMEMBER TO PUT ME IN THE FOLLOWING SELLERS LIST. Double box with a lot of bubble wrap around the object and a lot of soft material in the large cavities on all sides between the two boxes.
