Known for creating beautiful mouth-blown glass creations, Oiva Toikka has once again captured the beauty and essence of nature with the Gray Jay. Made from leaded crystal, the steel gray body of the bird is accented by a clear crystal tail and head. Almost half the size of its head, the iridescent silver-blue beak stands out giving a splash of color to this otherwise neutral bird. Oiva Toikka crafted this bird to celebrate Finn Grand Fest 2010. Each bird is hand etched with O. Toikka Nuutajrvi Finn Grand Fest 2010 on the bottom. Iittala Birds by Toikka Dyynia 2015 Limited Edition Numbered 267/700 Brand New in Mint Box. Inspired by the iittala color of the year (Desert) and named after the Finnish word for dunes (dynni), Oiva Toikkas Dynnia is a rich addition to the 2015 flock. Toikka wanted to convey the brave bird walking through the sand, which can be seen in the proud pedestal foot. His artistic vision has been realized by master glass blowers in Finland, who handcrafted only 700 of the numbered beauty. The transparent body is a glowing shade of warm amber, contrasted by a golden head and opalescent beak. The petite, pointed tail adds an endearing element to its stoic stature. Each unique iittala Toikka Dynnia carries O. Toikka IITTALA and is numbered x/700 on its base to ensure authenticity.

Its lovely white body is speckled with air bubbles and light brownish markings, which give the illusion of plumage. This effect is the result of a serendipitous event at the Nuutajrvi glass factory in which workers discovered that dirt left in the molds produced tracery-like markings on the glass. Toikka, seeing the potential in these markings, decided to incorporate this supposed defect into his designs. The vivid yellow head and metallic beak are wonderful counterpoints to the otherwise monotone bird. 8″ L x 3-1/2″ W x 4-3/4 H (20 x 9 x 12 cm). Toikka, Nuutajärvi, Finn Fest 2009. Only 500 in production.
