The bird was created in honor of Finlands 90th year of independence and is a stunning tribute to the country Toikka calls home. The dove, an oft used symbol of peace, is a perfect choice for this important year in Finnish history. Toikkas bird is a colorful celebration, with its opaque body contrasting nicely with its blue translucent beak. The Finnish Dove is mouth-blown at the Nuutajrvi glassworks in Finland by iittalas skilled artists. Each bird is hand etched with Oiva Toikkas signature as proof of its authenticity. His iconic collection of Birds by Toikka first took flight back in 1972 at the Nuutajärvi glass factory with the creation of his small glass Flycatchers. The collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and would not have been possible without Toikka’s hands-on-approach at the glassworks and his keen understanding of each employee’s skills. The white and light-colored areas in the image are due to the reflection of light, and there is no color loss. There are some scratches on the back ground surface, but nothing major or noticeable, and the entire piece is shiny. The overall glossy finish gives the piece a slight sense of use. There are some small dents in places. There are also three white areas on the sides that reflect light. There are no defects on the surface, and it is thought to be roughness of the glass caused by the manufacturing process.

Up for sale today is my extremely rare iittala bird. This comes from my own private collection. These birds are know. For their simplistic look, yet each one is hand made in Finland. So they are all unique. This bird is in good condition. There are no chips or cracks in it. There is one mark. See last picture of me pointing to it. But this most likely happened during the making process. This does come with the original box. Would be an awesome addition to your collection.
