This is for a Lot of (2) IITTALA Vintage 1998 Signed Glass Birds By Oiva Toikka in Excellent condition. These pieces were made in Finland. By Iittala in 1998. Both pieces were signed by the artist Oiva Toikka (see pictures)! The figures are both of the Ringed Plover and they feature a beautiful swirled stripe pattern on clear glass, which is quite hard to find! Measurements = 7″ L, 2 3/4″ W, 5 H. Spotted Crake has a beautiful mottled pattern. Predominant colors are light blue and white against a reddish brown. The Spotted Crake has a head of clear crystal and a mirrored beak. Spotted Crake is approximately 6-1/4 long and 3 tall. All of the Toikka birds are highly collected, individually made, mouth-blown pieces of art. Each bird is handmade at iittalas famous glassworks in Nuutajrvi, Finland. These birds are great gifts for bird-lovers and those who appreciate mouth-blown glass art. 3 H x 6-1/4 L (7.6 x 15.9 cm). The 2008 annual bird gets its name from a piece of Finnish poetry, Kukunor and Kalahari, by Lauri Viita. The poem tells the story of two trolls who spend a winter in a professors empty summer cottage, entranced by the wonders of its library. A celebration of imagination and life, this poem captures many of the themes that reappear again and again in Toikkas work. Like the poem, Toikkas Cuconor is a beautiful work of fiction. It has a round white body, enlivened by flecks of gold, rose, green and blue. The metallic marks shimmer in the light, awakening a sense of wonder in all who lay their eyes upon it. Its small head is made of clear glass so as not to distract from the subtle beauty of its stunning body.
