Set of 4 Oiva Toikka Birds – Flycatchers (Sieppo in Finnish) in its original pine wood box. According to the Birds by Toikka Book 1972 – 2009, page 17, this was a Special Edition of 1,000 birds by Iittala, issued in 2003/2004 and recreating the iconic 1970s design. All the 4 birds have Iittala stickers, are signed O. Toikka Nuutajarvi and numbered. Red bird: translucent rich cranberry red body with translucent deep turquoise blue beak. Blue bird: translucent deep turquoise blue body with translucent emerald green beak. Black bird: opaque black glossy body with bluish silvery lustre opaque beak. Grey bird: translucent grey with cobalt blue beak. It has a sliding lid. It has a label reading “Birds By Toikka Flycatcher Sieppo” and the product’s barcode and reference number. No chips, cracks, restoration or other flaws. The box has a few scratches on the wood on its bottom side. Height: 80 mm/ 3.14′. Length: 80 mm/ 3.14′. O. Toikka Glass Bird Eurasian Woodcock

Finnish artist Oiva Toikka’s birds can be pure imagination or, as in the case of Eurasian Woodcock, a very realistic representation. Toikka has captured all the characteristics of this species: the extraordinarily long beak to forage for food in soft ground; subtle brown markings perfect for blending into wooded surroundings; a stocky build common to waders. One almost expects this bird to begin swimming at any moment. Eurasian Woodcock has a transparent body adorned with brown and white scalloped markings. His 3-inch long beak is yellow to lustre color. Head is clear glass. The bird is about 10-1/4 inches long, 3-1/2 inches wide and 3-3/4 inches tall. Mouth blown by iittala artisans in their Nuutajärvi Finland glassworks. Production limited to 2007.
