Condition is good but has some very small scratches (they’re not easy to see but they are there if look much closer) on the surface under the beak Body is a bit uneven shape on the neck part. Iittala Bird Toikka Sieppo Flycatcher Rare Neodymium, Red Beak Signed Oiva

This is a vintage Flycatcher (Sieppo, in Finnish) by Oiva Toikka. Iittala The beak is red and the colour of the body changes, according to the kind of light it is exposed to, going from green to black, as it is one of the rarer Neodymium birds. The signature on the bottom reads Oiva Toikka Nuutajärvi Notsjo. The Sieppo birds were part of Nuutajärvi’s 1972 collection, which included a number of other glass pieces. The idea of launching a separate bird collection was born only later on. Two versions of the Sieppo were produced – with and without a foot. The colours are stunning and very vivid which made the birds very appealing to the public. (Adapted from the Birds by Toikka book – Werner Söderström Osakeytiö – Helsinki – 2008 – page 16). Oiva Toikka’s birds were handmade in Nuutajärvi, a glass-making village in Finland. The creation of the birds demands great technical and artistic insight from the glassblowers. Each bird is unique, featuring its own distinctive colour variations. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, restoration or other flaws. Set of 4 Oiva Toikka Birds – Flycatchers (Sieppo in Finnish) in its original pine wood box. According to the Birds by Toikka Book 1972 – 2009, page 17, this was a Special Edition of 1,000 birds by Iittala, issued in 2003/2004 and recreating the iconic 1970s design. All the 4 birds have Iittala stickers, are signed O. Toikka Nuutajarvi and numbered. Red bird: translucent rich cranberry red body with translucent deep turquoise blue beak. Blue bird: translucent deep turquoise blue body with translucent emerald green beak. Black bird: opaque black glossy body with bluish silvery lustre opaque beak. Grey bird: translucent grey with cobalt blue beak. It has a sliding lid. It has a label reading “Birds By Toikka Flycatcher Sieppo” and the product’s barcode and reference number. No chips, cracks, restoration or other flaws. The box has a few scratches on the wood on its bottom side. Height: 80 mm/ 3.14′. Length: 80 mm/ 3.14′.
