This is a special edition Flycatcher (Sieppo, in Finnish) by Oiva Toikka for Iittala and Scope. The body is a beautiful lilac pink tone and the beak is a deep turquoise blue. The signature on the bottom reads Oiva Toikka Iittala Scope 2017. The Sieppo birds were part of Nuutajärvi’s 1972 collection, which included a number of other glass pieces. The idea of launching a separate bird collection was born only later on. Two versions of the Sieppo were produced – with and without a foot. The colours are stunning and very vivid which made the birds very appealing to the public. (Adapted from the Birds by Toikka book – Werner Söderström Osakeytiö – Helsinki – 2008 – page 16). Oiva Toikka’s birds were handmade in Nuutajärvi, a glass-making village in Finland. The creation of the birds demands great technical and artistic insight from the glassblowers. It is one of the smallest and most delicate birds by Toikka – so tiny, dainty and perfect.
