A Lintupullo (= Bird Bottle) vase for Iittala, designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1956 for Iittala, and produced until the late 1960s. Signed and numbered on the underside. An iconic mid-century piece. Excellent vintage condition, no issues. Size: 20 cm high, 9.5 cm diam Please view all the photos before purchasing, they complete the description. While I do my best to reproduce the true colours of the pieces, they will vary slightly from system to system, and in actual viewing they will vary under differing lighting. All white spots are purely light reflections from the camera flash. The item will first be wrapped in bubble before packing securely in a solid box with lots of peanuts – earthquake proof.

Classic Timo Sarpaneva large bird bottle from Finland. Hand blown thin glass. Lintupullo is a Finnish name for the Bird bottle. Designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1956 and manufactured in Iittala Glass Factory until 1968. Color is deep blue. When the bottle has water inside it reacts with light and the texture and reflections come absolutely stunning. Almost like floating shape of liquid. I have owned many bird bottles. The problem with these is finding ones without grayness (water stains). Sometimes luckily they are cleanable and sometimes it’s already in a state of glass sickness. Yes there might be small normal signs of use but the bottle is free from grayness, has wonderful deep blue color and original the factory sticker. Signed “TS” as initials of Sarpaneva meaning this is the later 1960’s model. Stands approx 20 cm tall. I post world wide and wrap with care. An item that has been used previously. Used, Vintage Hand Blown Vase Soliflore Model “Karaphi” Blue Glass Signed by Timo Sarpaneva, Iittala Manufacture Finland 1958. One of postwar Finland’s most celebrated designers, Timo Sarpaneva was born to a family of blacksmiths and textiles artists in Helsinki in 1926. He studied graphic design and drafting at the Taideteollinen Korkeakoulu (now known as the Aalto University School of Arts, Design & Architecture) between 1941 and’48. In 1949, he won a prize in glass design from Riihimäki Glassworks, and the following year Karhula-Iittala hired him as a designer and exhibition programmer. Sarpaneva’s designs for Iittala earned both the man and the company international acclaim, particularly through presentations at the Triennale di Milano in the 1950s. Inspired by modernist principles of reduction and experimentation, Sarpaneva pioneered a number of new techniques and forms in glass design. Width: Approx 2.6.

Designed by Timo Sarpaneva in 1956 and manufactured in Iittala Glass Factory until 1968. The condition is really good. Color is the original i-series purple that has a lot of gray in. The color is grayish purple in natural light and gray in artificial light. When the bottle has water inside it reacts with light and the texture and reflections come absolutely stunning. Almost like floating shape of liquid. I have photographed the bottle with water. See first and fourth photos. (Bubbles in those photos are water bubbles). I have owned many bird bottles. The problem with these is finding ones without grayness (water stains). Sometimes luckily they are cleanable and sometimes it’s already in a state of glass sickness. Yes there might be small normal signs of use such as small surface scratches or some minimal discoloration and tiny water stains inside but the bottle is free from heavy grayness or any other problematic condition related issues. It has wonderful early production color and it’s super thin glass. There is a tiny brown spot apparently from manufacturing burned impurity? Can be seen in the last photo. Stands 20 cm tall. Timo Sarpaneva designed glass pitcher i-405 in 1956 and it was manufactured in Iittala, Finland. Heavy hand blown glass with clear bottom and green body. Even though this is designed with a everyday function it’s consideres as art glass. This one is my favorites from my collection. As this is signed from 1957 it’s one of the earliest from the series. You can see that from the shape and how the base has been polished. Signed “Timo Sarpaneva Iittala -57″. Really rare in green color. I’ve seen many of this series pitchers and this is the nicest one. 23.5 cm (9’25). Only small signs of use. No deep scratches, cracks or chips missing. I post world wide and wrap with care.
