In 2015, Iittala selected five social media influencers from five major urban cities: Helsinki, Shanghai, Tokyo, Paris and New York. Influencers passed on the spirit of their own city to Professor Oiva Toikka, who expressed them on to the beautiful birds. Each Bird was made a limited edition and they were only available in those cities. The beautiful Paris bird was inspired by Typhaine Augusto’s vision of Paris. Mouthblown at the Iittala Glass Factory, the collection embodies a rich fusion of glassmaking traditions and Toikkas hands-on-approach with his team. Birds by Toikka Kuulas uses a monochromatic Seville orange coloured glass to showcase the birds adorable, plump body. Its flat paddle tail and teardrop head are made of contrasting clear.
