Professor Oiva Toikka created each Birds by Toikka glass bird in close cooperation with glassblowers, first at the Nuutajärvi glass factory and later at the Iittala glass factory. The designs combine Toika’s love for nature and passion for glass art. The glass birds are inspired by real birds, but at the same time emphasizing Toika’s fascinating imagination. The bird of the year for 2023, the Blue Thrush, has a classic bird shape with attractive bluish-brown feather-like decoration. The annual bird is the perfect gift to remind you of the important moments of the year. Each bird is numbered and engraved to mark the year. Once upon a time a young couple named Dick and Jane Bridgins worked in the display department at a local department store. Frustrated by the lack of modern design, they ventured away from the department store to bring a more contemporary style store to Indianapolis. They started The Accent Shop Inc. Today our store focuses more on bridal and gift registry items. We carry a wide range of dinnerware, flatware, glassware and serving pieces as well as cards, collectibles, jewelry, etc. Over the years we have grown in square footage as well as in staff. Some of our best customers have enjoyed working for us over the years and we like to think of them all as part of our family.
